Eating Healthy

Healthy Eating
It is VERY IMPORTANT to realize that WEIGHT LOSS and BEING HEALTHY are NOT necessarily the same when it comes to eating.

Eating is the way that the human body takes in Nutrients, Vitamins, Minerals and Antioxidants (amongst a host of others! Intake of these into our system is important because we need to use them as building blocks for new cells & repair of old cells. Your Nutrition accounts for all the energy needed for every action taken in our daily lives. It supports our nervous, immune and metabolic functions as well as a host of other smaller, but interconnected processes. See our ‘Tips n’ Tricks’ section for some more details.

Eating is defined (for our purposes) as the process of choosing foods , amount & timing of when we eat, chewing , digesting, absorbing and reacting to the foods we ingest.
Food choice is important for health reasons. Your Diet often determines your likelihood for disease far more than genetics and has a huge impact on energy, alertness, productivity (business) and athletic ability

Food choice plays a large role in controlling insulin, and can be the major change in how quickly you lose body fat, controlling obesity and avoiding/abetting diabetes!
The amount and the timing of when we eat has a MAJOR impact on weight loss. Portion sizes have been proven to be one of the largest contributors to fat storage, followed very closely and interrelated very tightly with the timing of when we eat these portions and what choices we make. These are correlated very closely with blood sugars and Insulin. Any diabetic can tell you how important these things are to regulate. Blood sugars and Insulin play a very large role in the storage and conversion of foods to fatty tissue; societies current nemesis.

Even chewing our food has implications in how much we get from our meals. We can also take a lot from our teeth in terms of what our bodies were designed to eat. We are by perfect definition ‘Omnivores’. (please read the ‘Omnivores Dilemma’, it is a GREAT book about our current food system!)

Digestion is something that many people don’t know much about. It is the timing, how it relates to hormonal function, distribution of nutrients and its effects on everything from brain-wave patterns to energy levels. These things are so incredibly important for you and I in our daily lives. Ensuring a healthy gut help this along!

Absorbing food is not something we think about on a regular basis but certain foods absorb better than others, some digest quickly and others take hours. How do these affect our day-to-day? Are there foods we cannot absorb or struggle with absorbing? Do these cause us intestinal isues, food sensitivites or allergies? How do we find out in a world of commercialism and advertising what is ‘good’ for us? …and how can we NOT stress about this stuff?

Reacting to food is the final step. What happens when we eat what we do? Does our metabolism speed up, do we gain weight, do we lose weight, how can what we absorb from our foods help us with combating disease or rebuilding an injury?? Are we lacking in certain areas, are we overdoing others? Questions, Questions, Questions….
Food is not a simple thing. Mired in the corporate world of advertising is a society based around the dollar bill rather than health and wellness. How do we know what to do and who to trust?
