Pillars of Health Personal Training and Martial arts Studio in Vancouver combines the natural elements of what your body needs on a daily basis, the rhythms in which we have done them for thousands of years and then steps back and adds the lifestyle you currently lead to create a healthier, more complete, naturally occurring version of you.

Pillars of Health’ has been in the Vancouver personal training business since 2003. In 2008 Ben Newman started POHfolk productions. The studio was established in 2009 and has been operating out of our posh urban-industrial loft ever since. In 2010 we were joined by Kevin Chang, and in April 2011 we were joined by Registered Holistic Nutritionist Kristina Kozicynaite.  Then, in May 2011 by Vincenzo  ’Esteban’ Palermo; our self defense and stunt fight instructor. This group are the Pillars of Health, or  ‘POHfolk’ in your community.  We’re now 3 years old and are growing everyday as we invite new personal trainers, reiki practitioners and martial artists into the fold!

Philosophy and approach

‘Pillars of Health’ was created with the original idea of simplifying lifestyle and patterning life using biological rhythms and their matches in our ecosystem. This was done by using 5 different markers termed the Pillars of Health; these being the only 5 things we do in our daily “physical” lives; EAT, DRINK, BREATHE, SLEEP & MOVE.

This maintenance of your lifestyle in a more ‘natural’ state allows you to also stay connected, stay healthy, and if enough of us do it maybe we’ll make help some serious change to how we live!

When Ben Newman finished his Reiki Mastery in 2007 he chose to add 5 more pieces to the Pillars of Health Puzzle. He believed these to be essential elements to live well by, he termed them the 5 Reiki Insights. These being Acceptance, Perspective, Compassion, Community and Presence.

These describe what he believes to be stages walked when enlightening and/or healing ones self. The pillars of Health business model uses these intrinsically.
